They've sold something that didn't belong to them. That's theft & the item has been stolen from the owner.swingaloo said:

Actually, since it's high value presumably you'd have had it insurance as a specific item on your house insurance, could you make a claim for the shortfall / legal expenses?0 -
The item has been sold due to some error made by the company. That is not theft under any legal definition.
