)
oh and we’ve set up lasting powers of attorney for both of us for both health and finances, bit of a faff but gives a bit of piece of mind
target for year is to really build the isa savingsLeft is never right but I always am.1 -
Don't forget to remake your wills after you enter into the CP (unless they were recently done, specifically in anticipation of the event). The CP will otherwise invalidate pre-existing wills.2

I wonder if there is scope where you work for you to change your role and responsibilities slightly. Perhaps c.5-10% of your time is spent doing something that you have a passion for and either gives back to your organisation directly (e.g. mentoring/training younger colleagues) or to wider society.Mistermeaner said:Hi all
nearly a year on since starting this and not much has changed. Was chatting with the missus today how much I’ve enjoyed being off over Christmas, how much we get done and how time is so well spent
I’m still in the same job, not looking forward to starting back after hols but hey ho the year went fast. The mortgage has got smaller, the pensions have grown and the isas too - I guess I’m now 4 years from doing something different given that this time last year it was 5 years but it’s strange I don’t feel closer….. I guess cos things happen gradually and slowly
anyway I need to reframe work in my mind - I’m very well paid , we live well and have a solid financial plan. If I am fired it’s ok as have plenty of reserves and it will likely give me the push I need to seek fulfillment rather than just income
the game for me remains to do as little as possible work wise while continuing to save and prioritise me my health and my family
happy 2026 all
For many organisations it's not just about the profits they make but also how their organisation is perceived. If perceived positively they attract the best candidates from a diverse background. I'm not meaning for you to visit local schools or universities to talk about your career (but you could if that appealed to you) but instead I was thinking more about what your organisation does that has or could have a really positive impact on society. Many people aged c.48-55 can feel how you are feeling and their job is no longer just about the money (of course still very important though) but it's about 'something more' and that feeling of wanting to 'make a difference'.
Only you know what that 'something more' could be. Perhaps have a think about what this could be. I don't know if you have monthly one-to-ones with your line manager where you talk about your work and your career aspirations (and I'm not meaning you dropping your salary) and you could suggest some different avenues you would like your career to take.
