I've done my own self employed returns but I did some employed work part of the year.  Do I submit this on my self employed tax return or leave it?  I've attached an example of one pay sheet- didn't pay any tax on it

Do I need to put this in and declare it?

I was also claiming tax credits at beginning of tax year yearwhich turned into universal credit at end.   Want to make sure the cash and bacs declared for universal credit and tax return match.  I have written down what I submitted and have cash received written too but might not  completely match as dates run over April 6th.

It's a Tax Return of your total income for the year. How do you expect the calculation to be right if you don't include all your income for the year?

The tax return itself isnt for one particular purpose or another, there are additional pages you add depending on what monies you received during the year.

On page 2 you will say Yes to Self Employed and Yes to Employed and presumably 1 in each of the number boxes. Answer Property, Partnerships, Foreign as yes/no as appropriate.

Depending on how you are doing your tax return you then need to complete the Employed and Self Employed pages unsurprisingly putting details from your P60 on the Employed pages and the information from your sole trader activities on the Self Employed pages.

I found the p60 in my email.  Do I just enter the figures from that?  To me it seemed like they didn't tax me on payslips (see attachment in above post) just Ni.  Could be low wage dunno

You must enter the figures from the P60

you must input the P60 totals since those are amounts that HMRC has already been told about by your employer, so if yon don't declare them the HMRC computer will immediately flag your return as potentially incorrect

your payslip is Dated Dec 23 so mth 7 of the tax year (Apr - March) and shows total income for 7 mths is £1,728.
Your employer has used the standard tax code of 1257L, so as income tax operates on the basis of the total tax earned to date less total allowance to date, you have indeed not paid any income tax as 1,728 - (12,570/12 x 7) = no income above personal allowance to Dec 23.
NI is different as it operates on the amount paid each month, not cumulative to date, and has lower thresholds.

however, fact remains you have earned 1,728 which must therefore be added on to your SE income to see if the total of ALL income is more than your annual personal allowance 12,570. If it is, then you will have to pay tax under your SA tax return

I guess I thought they already had my paye figures from my employer and didn't need them.  Universal credit already has my figures for paye

They usually will have but it's called Self Assessment for a reason!

Sometimes the return is pre-populated with certain information HMRC is already aware of but it's still your responsibility to ensure that is correct.

I am self employed and regularly fill out a tax return, Last year I started another business (on top of the one i already have). In order to do the business I had to buy certain products (which I didnt use, although could have done). I have now stopped the buiness as it wasnt working for me but wonder if I can claim tax relief on the products that i bought. I didnt make any money on the business.
