Council Tax £89Can you pay this over 12 months instead of 10-most councils happy to do this Will def look at this idea when I get my new bill
Loan £282 (5.99%, last payment in Aug 2010)
Car Ins £25 Cheapest provider? I think it is - it is Tesco _ I am quite a new driver and it recently went up because I moved to an area with on-street parking, so this includes fee for adjusting. Will go down a little in March - must also shop around...
    Car tax £10
Car general £30 (estimate - MOT etc) Are tax and MOT being put into a separate account? No - not this organised, one off payments I scrape to find as and when
Petrol £50 Can this be reduced? This is mostly my share of taking my DS to see his dad - I think if I bought train tickets far enough in advance I could beat this price
    TV licence £12
Mobile £30 (inc insurance - contract up in a fortnight, intend to renegotiate down to £15) Good!
    Broadband £10
Contact lenses £20 Can you get these any cheaper? eg. monthly disposables rather than dailies, for example I get fortnightly ones & they are expensive - I'm a bit paranoid as there is eye disease in my family - but I should look at buying online - thanks
Gym £26 Cancel this I know!!!
Gas & Electric £33 This is really cheap-are you sure you are paying enough? It is cheap - I have been worrying about it but keep creating a bill (online with Scottish Power) and it seems ok - very good gas central heating. I am watching it though
    Water £25 (on meter) Good
Food £250 (me and 2 kids (18 & 8)) This can be reduced-why not join the Grocery Challenge on the Old Style board?
    Tesco CC £40 (minimum)
    Egg CC £88 (minimum)
    Total monthly outgoings £1739

Leaves £204 per month for extra debt repayments

    Tesco CC Balance £1238 (limit £1250) 16.9%
Egg CC Balance £4338 (limit £4400) 19.9% (this seems to have just shot up by 3%)

And because you asked- STOP SPENDING MONEY ON WINE!

Start keeping a spending diary and keep all of your receipts-you have money that is not accounted for in your SOA, so shouldn't be going overdrawn, so you need to work out where its disappearing to. It's going to be fine, but you will need to be quite strict with yourself if you really want to clear those cards

    Thank you!!

Mine too - which is why I can not, in all conscience, reccomend that you cut back - even though I know that you should.

  • You've all been more sympathetic about the wine than I expected!
But what is life without sensual pleasures???? ;)

    Drink less
    Spend less
    Lose weight
    Exercise more
    Be nicer to my children.....

    Totally agree Sarah
    (Welcome by the way)

If you deny all pleasures then you will go so far and rebel with a spending spree!

It's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.

Contact lenses can be bought much more cheaply on-line. Have a shop around-start with the cashback sites like Quidco and whilst you are at it check out insurance rates through there too. I found my house insurance was cheapest with 2 different providers-both on Quidco-one paid £5 cashback the other £70 so worth checking them all out.

  • Thank you bank_of_slate - will check out that one.

Duchy I don't even have house insurance - eek. I must sort this when I have clawed back some cash to pay for it. Didn't think about cashback for the lenses - what a great idea. I am a new convert and very determined with the cashback - as in my sig! I still forget sometimes though, and it does take ages to check all of them.

Wine? Not a creamy one? Never seen that!

Love your sig btw - and if you must go to work tomorrow - if I were you I wouldn't bother....for there are greater things in life and I should know, because I've seen them - but not very often
