tried to get a mortgage about 6 months ago with birmingham midshires and was turned down. on enquiring was told that i was an undischarged bankrupt. i was advised to send for my credit rating from experian which had no untoward "bad references" on it i also wrote to the land registry where they keep all records of bankrupt people and nothing there either. i got a mortgage 4 weeks later with cheltenham & gloucester without a problem only to be turned down again this week for a credit card balance transfer. what is going on its driving me mad.

Try getting your Equifax report too. Some lenders use one, some the other, some both.
Sounds like one of them has an error.Smile, it makes people wonder what you have been up to.

I hope you will not think this rude but as you do not say may I ask:-
Are you a Bankrupt person now or have you ever been bankrupt at any time in the past.
Is there any reason that you know of why you might have some adverse information with the Credit Reference Companies................................I have put my clock back....... Kcolc ym0 -
No never had any bad debt against me in any way shape or form my assets far outstrip my debts but debts are only balance transfer and easily managable the reason i sent for the credit report is that they said that was the company they had used0

I have applied twice to Barclaycard to do a balance transfer and been refused. When I paid to see my credit score from Equifax it seemed to be fairly good, Just above average, and slightly below the 'GOOD' rating. Equifax described my credit score as'One which would be acceptable to most lenders'.
Then when I rang Barclaycard again they said that the credit score which I had been given was not the same score as they had. How I am I expected to get credit when companies seem to use fictitious credit scores.Peter0 -
They do not use fictitious credit ratings.
They use their own ratings.
When making their own ratings they may have regard to what Experian tells them.
They choose their own customers................................I have put my clock back....... Kcolc ym0 -
How do they use 'their own' ratings if the know nothing about someone ? They use what they are given by a third party.
If, as in my case they announce to me with a strong element of surprise, that their score is markedly different to the cedit agency which they use, then I am entitled to suspect that there could a flaw in their scoring procedure.
As John Cleese might have said, It is "stating the bleedin' obvious" to say that they choose their customers, just as customers can choose their lenders.Peter0 -
Did they tell you which Credit Agency they used?...............................I have put my clock back....... Kcolc ym0

Yes, they use both Equifax and Experian, but the point of my contribution was that it can be possible that the information held by the lender, (even one as omnipotant as Barclays), is not compatible with that of the credit agency.Peter0
