In fairness to the OP they didn't "spout" anything about it being against the law. They just asked a question "is it legal" - which might have been the wrong term to use but I am sure the point they were making is - can/should my employer do this? In my own experience it is usual to be paid they day before in the event of pay day falling on a holiday or weekend.
If you are on a tight budget then the extra two days waiting for your money to go in can be quite a significant issue so it's an understandable question imo.
