I placed an order for a new sofa back in November. I was advised that this will take up to 10 weeks.
I have not received this item as of yet but have noticed that this is now in the sale.
Where would I stand as this is a couple of hundred pounds difference.
Do I have any right?
Thank you

Quick question, if the sofa had gone up by a couple of hundred pounds - would you be happy if the retailer asked you to pay the difference?4

If you want to ask for the price to be reduced, or to cancel the order and reform it - then... no, that isn't a "right" - it'll depend on what the contract states.
You could just ask if they'll match the reduced price. They'll probably say "no", but there's no harm in trying.0 -
You don't have an automatic right to the reduction. You ordered in November and were happy with that price. If it had gone up you wouldn't be offering to pay more. Prices move all the time and to be honest, ordering in November was almost certainly going to see you paying more than in the January sale, for almost anything other than groceries.
However, if you ordered online, you can return the sofa within 14 days of receipt. There may be a charge to do so if the terms and conditions state that and they are clear, fair, etc. If so, you'll need to balance that charge against the £200. If you ordered in-store, your right to cancel will be detailed in the contract.
Why don't you simply ask the retailer if they'll refund the difference? They may agree. If you did order online, you could always tell them that your other option is to return it and re-order. They may rather just refund the difference than have the hassle of a return and a new order. Or they could call your bluff because you'll go to the back of the queue which I suspect may be more than 10 weeks from a new order date, given it's the most popular time of year to buy a sofa.0 -

Since you ordered in November AND were told it could take 'up to' 10 weeks, then there is not a lot you can do. If it doesn't arrive within the 10 weeks, then you could contact the seller about a possible discount based on a late delivery and the drop in price.0 -

Checked the terms and a contract was formed on dispatch so I asked if they could match the lower price, they cancelled and said to reorder so for 2 minutes to email and 2 minutes to reorder I was £20 better off. I guess if your income is more than £300 an hour why bother but mine isn't...
Granted they could have cancelled and said you can't reorder but when dealing with medium sized company with a customer service dept that kind of pettiness doesn't exist and in this case they were awaiting stock rather than making the bookcase so the new order arrived at the same time the first order would have.
And it is important to remember in that example the whole thing is balanced as if the price did go up the retailer could withdraw their offer and insist if a sale is to go ahead it's done at the higher price, it's just not common as a retailer runs a greater risk of losing the customer.Aylesbury_Duck said:

If no contract until dispatch then it's just withdrawing the offer.
OP as above you can ask, actual rights depend on the specifics, worth noting your 10 week delivery window may reset so is worth considering if you are wanting the sofa sooner rather than later. In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0
