State pension and 2023/4 self assessment

State pension(SP) was an issue for my 2023/24 self assessment(SA)
I am no expert in these things but I totalled up the money received for each month April2023 to Mar2024 (12nonths) and entered that on my SA.
However I have seen other comments stating the figure should be based on my 'entitlement' and not what I actually received so realise there may have been a slight difference.
However on submission I got an error posted on my account stating my SP was wrong, around £300 short!
There was no figure pre filled in the SA for ny SP.
I contacted HMRC and I explained the issue but their rep stated that they used the figures given to them by DWP.
I waited while they phoned through and queried it with DWP who explained where the figures used, came from.
Frighteningly, they stated the figures used, per month, were those I was receiving April 2024 to date!
They appear to have used the SP figures from the wrong year!

The HMRC rep stated she had asked the DWP to send me a P60 which, unsurprisingly, never arrived.
I now realise that DWP don't issue a P60 but I need to know why they have used figures that mean I have had to pay around £300 more tax than I should have? Before I complete 2024/25 SA I don't want to have the same issue.
My thought was that I should phone DWP this May and check what they presume the figure is for 2024/25 and ask them for clarification about 2023/24.
Comments welcome

Is the real issue here that you have forgotten State Pension is paid 4 weekly, not monthly 🤔

money received for each month April2023 to Mar2024

State Pension is a weekly benefit - it seems that you are on a four weekly (NOT calendar monthly) payment cycle.

After your first year of getting the State Pension, you’ll pay tax based on 52 weeks of payments each year.

There was no figure pre filled in the SA for ny SP.

    Seems odd.

Should be 13 payments...as others have said, state pension is paid every 4 weeks.

Not sure how you have had to pay £300 extra tax when you say your SP was 'around £300 short' ?

It could be that HMRC have used the April 24 figure in error.

DWP notify HMRC  in advance of the amount you are due to receive  for the following  year, so it is possible  someone has updated your record
    Incorrectly.

Contact the Pension Service for details of how much you have received.
