    I would have thought that the main disadvantage would be that she is dead. Against that I would expect I and everybody else would not care one way or the other about a few thousand pounds in the grand scheme of things.
    I topped up an incomplete year for my younger ex wife's NI when she wanted to retire super early at the same time as me going early. Sadly she is still alive. That wasted NI payment still bugs me. In this situation I'd be tempted to at least top up the £693 year or just do the whole lot to get it done. Depends how likely she is to go back into work.
