I've been recieving threatening texts from CDER group for a year but there's a problem

Hi, as the title says they've been texting seemingly automated threats since December 2023. They claim that a warrant was issued by HMCTS. However, I'm a little suspicious on account of the fact that I've not been in any trouble, and that these texts are addressed to somebody with a completely different name when they mention a name at all. They've even gotten the gender wrong! It's not a name I recognise either. I have been working in another country since March but received no letters from them while I was in the UK, nor has my family mentioned recieving any letters since the move. There was a long period silence starting in April before they started up again in October. The number they insist I call also appears to have changed in October. Is this a scam or a case of my phone number being used by someone, or something else?

If you are certain that they are not meant for you then I would block them.

If you haven't had letters that's likely as they don't know your address.  And if they are addressing you with the wrong name they are very unlikely to be ever able to find you.  Normally an agency such as CDER will look at credit reports and those give addresses.  But the basic look up for a credit report is to use your name and potentially DoB or current address.

It sounds to me that either someone gave your number when they were getting credit or whatever OR someone somewhere has made a mistake and the file has ended up with your number when it likely should have a slightly different one.  Maybe swapped a 3 for a 5 or similar.

If there's a warrant and you're thinking someone might knock on your door that is only possible if they know your address.  Even if they did track it down they'll ask to talk to "Roger" or whatever and you can state "nope, no Roger here!" and close the door.  Nothing they can do about it.

It sounds scammy to me. What number do they want you to call?

Warrants last 12 months so the scammer needs a new angle.

See if you can block the texts

At first they were asking me to call [Removed by Forum Team]. That changed to [Removed by Forum Team] in October. I've just been ignoring them as I'm quite certain I've done nothing. No debts, no fines, arrests, tax issues nothing.
