another mortgage over payment question

Options
I have 224,563 with 15 years left. I am a higher tax payer.  I paid an extra £3k last week on the mortgage with Nat West and they've reduced the monthly payment rather than the term.  Is this still worth doing in the future or can I ask them to reduce the term?  I've tried speaking to them, but it's all AI tech and on searching it looks as they only allow overpayments to reduce the monthly payments.  Martin talks of to be aware of this.  Thank you.

This page may be useful, specifically for one off payments it says:
    • If you pay £1,000 or more, your monthly payment will be recalculated.
I've made overpayments of less than £1k and can confirm my monthly payments remain the same.

Aim:12mth Emergency Fund -> £14264/£17076 (83%) Aim 2: Mortgage Overpayment -> Paused until other aim fulfilled.

Nothing to stop you making further overpayments every month. Your mortgage will still ultimately be settled quicker.
