The latest video from James Slack I think is a bit of a tour de force. Points we all can benefit from and really well explained and delivered as usual.

It's an official YouTube link - I've rechecked it and it is fine. I need to perhaps find a different way to share as I fear your comment will put people off watching what is an exceptionally good video.flaneurs_lobster said:I'm sure that link's fine but Malwarebytes thinks whatever's in front of it is phishing and blocks it.

Thanks @Phossy I really enjoy James's videos and this one is no exception. Here on a money saving expert forum we unsurprisingly focus on the money aspects of retirement. James points out many of the other factors that require consideration if you want your retirement to be successful.0

It’s Shack, not Slack 😀Phossy said:The latest video from James Slack I think is a bit of a tour de force. Points we all can benefit from and really well explained and delivered as usual.

I find him mildly irritating (just in style - his content is good) but I did watch this one when it popped up on my YouTube and I thought it was extremely good.1

I'm much less likely to disregard a post such as this if the OP was to bother providing some written summary of what the video is about. I have plenty of other YouTube content to watch thanks very much.A little FIRE lights the cigar1

The video is 23 points of advice for people coming up to retirement. Like most of these lists you have probably thought of most of these already but with this many and James's expertise there is a good chance there is a new one.ali_bear said:I'm much less likely to disregard a post such as this if the OP was to bother providing some written summary of what the video is about. Like many on here, I find James Shack interesting and often useful.3 -
Are you able to post links to any youtube content that you think members might find useful ?ali_bear said:I'm much less likely to disregard a post such as this if the OP was to bother providing some written summary of what the video is about. I know of some good salmon videos ..A little FIRE lights the cigar1 -
If this is the one with the 23 points of advice, I watched it the other day and thought it was very good.
I found the point about making sure you have provision for long term care interesting and a bit of a counterpoint with what I hear on the Meaningful Money podcast. In the latter, they are often saying that it’s pretty rare for people to go into a care home, and when they do, most people aren’t there for long (for obvious reasons).
However James Shack is quoting 25% of people, and average 3 year stay - not sure where he got those figures from but it’s higher than what I’ve heard in the past.
Personally, I am not planning to save up an additional £200K in my pension to cover care home costs as that would require an additional several years of work - if I get a good SORR run, it will be covered anyway. If not, it will have to be equity from the home that covers any care home costs.2
