No zip card yet

My 16 year old lives in Greater London and their zipcard is no longer valid - they are being slow and haven't applied for a new one yet.
Will they be barred from using the bus?
(I know that they shouldn't use the bus, but if they were reasonable they would already have a zipcard)

They can pay separately to use the bus - like any other child (i.e. a non Londoner, tourist etc.) without a zip card.

Their current zip card won't be valid tomorrow - there's been loads of advertising about it, and I'd expect they'd either be denied boarding or fined if they use it

I know there has been loads I  have been trying to do it for weeks but without cooperation. They will have to spend their own money to do so - because I won't pay for it.

I'm intrigued as to why you think they shouldn't use the bus, is it just because they don't have a Zipcard or do you have some philosophical objection to 16 year olds riding on a bus?

I want them to be able to use the bus - I just want to know what happens before they have a zipcard, if the bus drivers really enforce the rules or just say, "School kids come in."

When I say "shouldn't use the bus," I meant I know they are not really meant to go on without paying but 16 years old are stubborn enough to try to do so anyway. Does that make sense?

I expect revenue protection will be out in force on the buses when the schools return. If he's caught,  that's a £100 fine (reduced to £50 if paid quickly).
