I was told you can choose a hospital and specialist in a different area to where you're usually sent locally.  -

I was recommended this guy-

https://www.britishherniasociety.org/john-findley/

It's also a shorter wait.  He's an hour and a half away.

Worried I'll get a registrar or someone rubbish at my local hospital even a poor consultant there for hernia op.  Bad hospital.

Can GP refuse?   And can I force the issue if they do? I asked previously to go to Guy's where I'm getting excellent treatment which couldn't possibly get locally.

Shall I say I was probably misdiagnosed 18 months ago and have already had my time wasted and not given the obvious ultrasound which is their fault until Guys.  How can I force them to refer me

As I understand it, the only way you can be certain that the surgeon you choose will personally do your operation is to go private. With the NHS, whilst you will be under the "care" of a named consultant, the operation may well be performed by one of his / her team. That is particularly true with more routine procedures for obvious reasons.

Thxs.  This particular recommended guy from British Association of Hernias works at a centre of excellence and my local hospital has been nicknamed the death hospital the wait is less too and even if I don't get this guy surely it's worth going for consultation which will be sooner too?  I've got couple of names for local recommended private surgeons too(£4000)  But can GP stop me requesting this or does she have to do it going on the new laws ?

Providing medical advice, which probably includes the name of surgeons is against the forum rules.

If you've identified the surgeon already you could ask your GP to refer, but with the NHS that might not actually get you the desired surgeon on the day of the op. You might only be able to have this by going private and paying the commensurate fee.
