HMRC simple assessment payment question

Options
I may be over thinking this, I get anxious easily. My Mom had a simple assessment tax bill and has asked me to pay it online for her as her bank doesn't issue  cheques and she hasn't got a cheque book. I have the reference starting with the X and when I put this in in just says to enter amount you wish to pay. Easy enough, but when I entered the 14 digit code i made a mistake in one of the numbers and it still let me go all the way to the payment page. This got me worried as I could have paid it ad it wouldn't have been paid to moms account. I tried to set up the gateway for her so we would be able to see her name when we pay but she has never had a driving licence/ passport credit card or mortgage so we cant prove her ID . I know I can be ultra careful when entering the 14 digit code but how do I know if it has been credited to her tax bill? she can't phone as she is deaf.

I'd suggest that your mother use the Extra Support team: Extra Support Team - GOV.UK to check that the payment has arrived and been allocated to her tax account.

Just be careful when you enter the 14 digit payment reference number in your online banking service.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

I was wondering if I could pay mine at the post office using my debit card.  That of course is when I eventually get my simple assessment - it seems to be running a little late - as in over 5 months.
