Delays with HMRC

I submitted a form R43 back in August. It’s not a huge amount of money Im owed basically they taxed a one off payment in April at 40%, they’ve already paid me the bulk of tax back, but  still taxed a whole 20K at 20% rather than applying a personal allowance. 

I contacted them in August and they said to fill out an R43 to claim the Personal allowance for that year which I did. I’ve chased them once a month since then and not being able to get any updates other than it is still in the queue.

what else can I do? When they owe you money and you don’t pay it, they charge you interest and penalties but seems they can take forever paying you

Did you not have any other income that used up the personal allowance? Was it for 23/24 or 24/25?

They do pay interest if tax deducted at source is refunded after a certain date.

Which country are you resident in for the tax year you are claiming for?

HMRC are appallingly slow this year. I submitted my very straightforward Self Assessment return which because of HMRC screw up with my tax code last year means I am due a £4K refund. I submitted the return in April 2024 & they still haven't issued the refund. Last tax year when I was due a £2K refund it was paid within a month of submission. I have been following up with regular phone calls to HMRC over the last few months but am getting nowhere.

no I had no other income at n that tax year I went through all this with a tax consultant and with HMRC and they said to claim the personal allowance via a form of R43

Which country are you resident in for the tax year you are claiming for?

I was resident in UAE. Yes I have seen that they pay interest and also compensation, but you have to proceeded down the complaints route and request it
