New Pillows

I’m wanting to buy some new pillows, I bought several in recent years as both me and my husband suffer with Neck and back pain. We have just ordered a new bed and mattress, So thinking I might as well buy some new pillows as well.

I’m looking at synthetic pillows, I’m happy to spend a bit as an investment but I have seen some individual pillows at over £100 each, which is out of my budget.

My budget is about £60 for two pillows, Hoping to get a bargain in the sales.

Looking at firm pillows that support  The head and neck.

I did see some on the TK Maxx website that were heavily discounted, but I had never heard of the brand.

Any suggestions would be more than Welcome, thank you

I would never buy a pillow online unless I was sure of what I was getting.  Of course TKMaxx normally makes returns easy but I'm not sure how that might apply to pillows as some places won't allow returns if you've taken the pillow out of it's packaging.

That's why I go instore to look - it's one of the very few reasons I will ever venture into an Ikea as you can actually try out the pillows on a bed.  (otherwise I'm there for the meatballs.)

Personally as well I tend to go for natural fibres (no head sweats), goose/duck feathers, extra firm and a normal pillow shape (OH talked me into getting square pillows once).  So in store you can more easily compare actual "ingredients" along with squishability.

Aren’t Ikea pillows a different size to pillows sold in UK stores? They are ok I guess if you have IKEA bedding, which I haven’t.

We have no M&S or a department store in our local town either 😢
  • I have these ones, a bit above your budget but you get 10% off your first order. I've had mine over 2 years and it's kept it's shape and support well. I also bought my Dad one and it's the longest he's kept a pillow.

I always had to have 2 pillows but go for just the one now, but would recommend these thoroughly.

I think you're thinking of their double beds, which in the UK used to be a slightly wider European double, rather than a narrower UK double. We have the European double size, and of the readily available high street bedding, only the John Lewis extra deep double sheets fit properly.

I've had lots of IKEA bedding over the years, and I've never had an issue with non-IKEA pillows being the wrong size.

If you want to keep them firmer I find zippable quilted pillow protector really helps... And reduces the need to wash the pillows themselves.

Have you considered an inverted V pillow.  I do use one but then often sleep without a pillow at all, but I don't share a bed so my snoring has no-one to waken.

I buy M&S washable pillows.  They deliver if you don't have a nearby store.

If you do decide to stretch the budget the Kud.dly Dream pillow is good. It's fully adjustable to suit you. Takes a whilet to work out what your best pillow is but you just add/remove the foam until you have your perfect pillow.

They are in thr sale at £49 but often have sales

I've been using an orthopaedic pillow for years - purchased from the chiropractic clinic I went to, and I  just purchased a new one online last year: health posture.  They probably aren't for everyone - my husband tried my old one and prefers a squishy pillow - but I swear by them for relieving neck/back pain.

ps just to add that my chiropractic pillow has lasted well over 10 years, in fact I can't even remember when I bought it, so although they are expensive they last for ages.  Even though I have a new one I still use my smaller old one as a spare when away etc.
