Where to get info re solar panels & batteries already installed in house we bought

Hi,

We've just moved into a bungalow,  which has 16 solar panels, and 2 batteries.
Although the vendor told us he would leave paperwork relating to all this and how to manage it,  there's nothing except the invoices for the original installation in 2018.  He made it clear to us that the panels had been bough outright.
He told us it brought an income of £2000 per year from the feed in tariff, (Either with Eon or EDF,  I can't remember which).  He bought his energy -gas and leccy - from Octopus so that confused me -  don't you link the feed-in to your supplier?

I've moved our octopus account to this bungalow, and I can see activity on our smart meter,  but I've no idea what I need to do regarding the panels/batteries.
I'll be ringing Octopus to ask if they can advise me on Monday,  but can anyone give me advice.  I'm hoping we can reduce our electricity costs somewhat  -  assuming this fog doesn't stay forever.
I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say. :)

There's a current thread "Buying a house with solar panels" where we're discussing much the same question. You might find it useful.
No, your FIT does not need to be with the same supplier as you buy electricity from.
Your vendor should have provided all the necessary FIT ownership info as part of the document packet for the house sale, and your solicitor should have insisted on this prior to completion. This would include a transfer of ownership form. However all is not lost. If you can't get any useful info from the vendor there is a route to approach Ofgem with your proof of ownership and get info on the FIT registration. See the other thread for details.

  • My thread Buying a house with solar panels  can be of interest to you.
For you it's a little too late, but I was glad to read "Well done for asking exactly the right questions up front"  there. :)

Thanks for this information =  it seems our solicitor has let us down badly on this :( even though I asked twice in writing what information we would need and how we would get it! )

Looks like I have lots of admin work to do when everything opens up after Christmas.

Are you able to share details of the makes and sizes of the panels, inverter and batteries? Also, what heating you have in the bungalow and do you have an EV. I'm sure this would then start a discussion on how you can best utilise the solar and batteries.
