I’m finally mostly over this nasty virus, and back at work now. Today was the first day out of the house in a week (except for when I nipped to the shop on Monday) and I am feeling totally wiped out after a day in the office.
Since I have been ill over the past week I haven’t spent much, which is a positive. I had a very relaxed weekend at home, mostly reading my book and staying out of trouble. DH was away with friends for some of the weekend and it was just me and the dog. The dog also ended up unwell with a tummy upset, so we were both feeling sorry for ourselves!
My mum came over for tea on bank holiday Monday which was nice. We had a veggie thai curry.
I spent £10.35 this day on a top up shop (mushrooms, basil, ginger, garlic, houmous, pitta bread, kitchen roll and some quorn).
Yesterday I found out I didn’t get the job I interviewed for. However, by complete surprise on the same day I was offered an opportunity at my current place of work. Unexpectedly my organisation received some additional funding for a project, and as a result have offered me my old job back (which is less responsibility and way less stressful) but at the same manager salary I am on now. I decided to take this opportunity! I feel really positive about this, as I feel it will be much easier to manage for me. It’s funny how things work out.
Today I spent £5 on the train to work, and an autumnal candle (£5.50) and engagement card for my friend (£1.99).

Thanks for all of the kind messages!
I am already feeling such a weight off my shoulders with the job change. It’s a nice time of year for change as well. I always feel inspired at this time of year having been used to the academic year in the past. I have lots of goals and plans for the autumn/winter months, but my plans will have to wait for now until I return from my holiday in early October.
This weekend I met up with my best friend which was really nice. It was an expensive day though. £17 spent on an engagement gift for her, £7.70 on the train, £16.70 on lunch and £21.50 on drinks! Luckily we don’t do it often, but it’s really nice when we do meet up, so I’m determined not to feel guilty for the spending. It’s a good job I’m an introvert and don’t feel the need to go out socialising much..
The rest of the weekend was spent properly resting. For once I didn’t feel stressed about work, and I got to potter around and read my book in peace.

Well I’ve been out of action for quite a while. In my last post I mentioned that I was going on holiday for a few weeks until the end of September. This is a holiday we had been saving for a long time, well over a year. Unfortunately on the second day of the trip I got very unwell and continued to be unwell for the entire trip. When I returned home I ended up in hospital.
Almost 3 weeks later I’m still not myself but I am slowly getting a bit better each day and managing to eat a little bit. I’m going to be taking things very slowly over the next few weeks whilst I get my strength back.
I feel so relieved to be back home and starting to get a little bit better. I’m really looking forward to a restful and peaceful autumn/winter.
The savings goal is going okay and we currently have £8600 saved. In October we will be putting a further £900 in savings as DH is putting £650 in (he took some money out of it earlier this year which he is paying back with his bonus) and I will put my usual £250 in.
This is getting us quite close to our goal of £10,000 by the end of the year, but next month we will need to take some funds out for car related costs. I estimate we will end the year coming in just under £10,000.
I’ve got quite a few occasions and social events coming up in the next month or so (all being well if my health improves). It’s our 1 year wedding anniversary, DH birthday, having a meal out with in laws and seeing my friend who I haven’t seen in a year for a day out. It’s going to be quite an expensive month but I have put some money aside so I just need to make sure I stay in budget.
On days when I have more strength and energy I am hoping to do some batch cooking for the freezer, to support me on days when I am not feeling good. If anyone has ideas for simple veggie meals that can be frozen please let me know!
