Franchise training grants.

Hello all,
I'm seeking advice please, prior to COVID I was training as a driving instructor, there are three tests to qualifying. My part three was day after we locked down. Though. I rebooked it through that year each time it was cancelled. You only get 2years to qualify. We were not allowed extension because of COVID . So I lost all my training and the money I had spent. Not being self employed for 2 years did not qualify for financial help either. I. Am desperate to retrain but paying for a franchised car all through a year of not working hardly at all. I ended up in financial difficulty. I am trying to get back into it. But I am single paying all my bills do not qualify for any help or universal credit and now cannot get loans because I'm having to use my overdraft each month and struggling. Is there any grants out there for people who want to train to get a franchise. I have to retrain from the beginning. So on one wage impossible to do. Please any suggestions appreciated.thsnk you for reading.

What really awful timing for you.

Have you asked your local council if they provide any sort of financial help for retraining? It varies greatly across the country. There's a thriving business for instructors in our area as we have a lot of uni and college students plus foreign language students in addition to the regular 17 yos who want to get a bit of freedom.

I think you need to look at what's the potential for you as an instructor before you spend more time and money on it.  A chap I worked with (mature, sensible, financially astute) had to step back from the great money that the training companies were saying he would make because he realised they were completely making up the profit margins.  They said he'd get £30 per hour for a 35 hour week that didn't take in to account that there might be an hour between appointments and that not everyone would be available 9 - 5 M - F as they suggested.

  • Hi I worked and taught as a PDI while I was waiting to take my part 3 test. It in itself was the most rewarding job I have ever had. I am aware of the costs involved tax ,NI contributions. Fuel. Accounts services.ETC But regardless wish to do it again. It is a passion of mine something I loved and really wish to do again
