Are there no fees for a cheque that is presented but doesn’t get paid?Dizzycap said:
The account won't get opened........Aidanmc said:
So what happens in that situation when the cheque doesn't clear?Dizzycap said:
I certainly will be as 8 days after posting my application form for the Scottish BS RS, the monies still have been drawn from the cheque I also sent, so I've moved it back into an account that gets a higher interest rather than my current account. IMHO, 8 days is more than long enough for a BS to get themselves organised and either accept or reject an application, especially after sending off the application along with ID via email & then reciving an email of confirmation to send a cheque & including a completed print out form and ID again!Hattie627 said:
Knowing the habits of the old lags on here, we'll all apply for the Scottish BS online version and hope for the best.trickydicky14 said:
Thanks Bridlington but I've applied for the postal version so I can't now get excited about the upcoming online one as I can only have the one, unless you know different you old boundary pusher.Bridlington1 said:
I would imagine Scottish BS'll come to your rescue at some point then, when I spoke to them they said they were hoping to launch their online RS either this week or next week.trickydicky14 said:I will be sooo glad when a new topic comes along. Do all banks do this? I'm with Santander and their notification system seems to have stopped.allegro120 said:

It's about 10 days now since I've posted mine. Few people who sent theirs on the same day reported that their cheques have been cleared a few days ago, but mine is still not cleared. If not cleared tomorrow I'll have to call them. If my envelope was lost or any other problems I will wait until they release the online version.
I don't keep funds in my current account in waiting for a cheque to be cleared. When it's cleared I get notification on my phone and bring my balance back to zero. It's better this way, no loss of interest.0 -

Am I the only person here who didn't need to send a cheque? And obv has had the account opened and funded...
I had the application accepted, account opened and funded it, all within a single day. I've been a member of ScottishBS for just over a year now.0 -
I posted mine 2nd class on 2/10. Cheque cashed 10/10. It's the 13/10 today the account is open but I'm waiting for my welcome pack and log in details. I have no expectations that everything will be in place anytime soon.allegro120 said:

RE SBS - I got an email on Friday to say that my current account couldn't be verified (only had 15 years) and please send a scan / pdf / photo of the main information page. I suspect it may be because my cheque was issued in 2011 and the branch has closed down.Sent it in on Friday so will probably hear later today or tomorrow.2

Exactly where we got to last time. Secure message determines it but it remains a mystery why secure message generated sometimes and not other times.Slinky said:I think it's the secure message thing that determines whether or not it's manually looked at and noticed. No message = no problem, new account issued. But why a secure message is generated for some, I don't think anybody on here has actually worked out, have they?2 -
Presuming you meant 'haven't been drawn', doesn't your action risk having the check bounce?Dizzycap said:

If anybody is considering making a false declaration in order to gain a higher rate of interest, then I can see no difference between that and fraud. Get that marker on you and any backdating of the interest reduction will be the least of your problems.Born2Save_3 said:YBS First Home eSaver 4.7%A, £500 a month, 2 yearsDoes anyone know if YBS do any checks on being a first home buyer ? Or any other non-compliance ?In the product details there is the following sentence :'If you're not saving for your first home, we can transfer your money to an online easy access savings account.'which I take to be a possible severe consequence should anyone not comply.1
