  • Well @ 6.5% I'll give it a try. It'll replace my regular saver with West Brom @ 6% which is due to mature soon and with whom I'm never likely to use again as they are now branch only.

Surely a bank statement and utility bill from a couple of months ago won't cause you any grief ?
No, but sending my passport or certifying it will.  Also I don't have a printer, which is another obstacle.  The cost can still justify it (providing the rate is fixed or stays competitive throughout the term), but the amount of time and effort required for this can't.
  • I wouldn't send my passport or driving licence either. Neither would I go to the trouble to get any ID certified, that's why I suggested the alternatives. I don't have a printer either but my local library does and at 20p a copy is cheaper than running my own. My application will be in the post tomorrow......I don't care how long it takes to open.

Needless to say, it would be unwise to email a scan of your passport or driving licence.

I don't think anyone has suggested doing that.

I’d found a different savings Application Form which I’ve printed off in anticipation.
At the bottom it gives option to scan and email back with ID passport/driving licence scans
Hoping this is a method to apply
That would be the game changer for me.  My scanner is working and I have pictures of my passport and signature.  Don't even need a scanner, can just edit and send pdf.

I hope this version of form will be allowed for opening this RS

for one, not all providers support TLS encryption or enforce it, so some email sending is plaintext over the internet. Even some that are TLS can be downgrade attacked to be plaintext.
another is that the email will not likely be deleted and be accessible to more people than necessary with possibly not enough record of access
