  • Hi all,

I had my email from Zopa saying I was on their waitlist on the 12th of December, as I registered in the hope of being invited to open their 7.5% regular saver but I've still not heard anything from them. Should I have done something else?  I log in every day.

    Thanks so much

At the risk of showing just how thrilling I'm expecting my New Year's Day to be, is it pointless sending faster payments over to any regular saver on New Year's Day?
New Years Day should be fine as most institutions have a change freeze over this period so Faster Payments should not be down for any maintenance anywhere. It’s weekends you have to watch out for! For info, Faster Payments is a 24 Hour x 7 Day x 365 Day service.
I thought @powersavingmode was more referring to deposits arriving on the next working day, as New Year's Day is a non-working day, and therefore the interest loss/lack of interest on that day. Maybe not though, idk
Spot on. I confused myself, too! So pointless sending over a deposit on NYD...
    Varies based on the provider tbh - unsure if there is a list anywhere. But basically;

    • Some will credit it dated as NYD and it'll earn interest from NYD
    • Some will credit it dated as NYD+1 and it'll earn interest from NYD+1
    • Some will credit it dated as NYD+1 and it'll earn interest from NYD
    • Some will credit it dated as NYD and it'll earn interest from NYD+1
Basically, a 2x2 matrix, and every option is a possibility.

Personally, I'll just deposit on NYD for simplicity because I always do it on the 1st where possible, and the interest loss would be 0 as the funds would be sitting in my current account otherwise that day anyway.

If there was a definitive list, I'd certainly be interested in having a look, but the time it'd take for me to cross compare my list vs the crediting date list may not be worth it for a relatively small sum if my funds were to remain in savings for the extra day.

In short, if your funds are earning interest elsewhere currently, may as well not send deposits on NYD as a general rule of thumb - particularly for building societies.

Generally these things are rolled out in batches. If they are releasing it to more customers, this is *likely* to be in the new year so the team aren't inundated with bug reports etc. (if any) over the holidays.

So probably not much more you can do for now :)

    Zopa Regular Saver

I opened this on the 03/12 and noticed today I had been paid interest of £1.49 on 27/12 which I was not expecting.

Did I miss the t&c which said interest paid monthly?  Anyone shed any light?
Which will be why the gross and AER rates differ!

I have set up a “no chat” thread for people to post information about newly launched Regular Savings Accounts that meet the criteria of “Best Available” set by @Bridlington1 on the first page of this thread.

This thread is incredibly useful for people who want to discuss the best available accounts, but posts about new accounts are quickly lost in the chat.  The intention of the new thread is that people will be able to subscribe to it and set up alerts so they are notified quickly when new accounts are launched.  Any questions or discussion about any new accounts belongs on this thread.

Thanks again to @Bridlington1 for continuing the excellent work started by SpecialSaver2 so many years ago.  I hope people will find a “no chat” thread useful.

Great idea. There's one poster in particular who seems to have taken a dislike to me when posting what they consider to be irrelevant posts, but who is quite happy to make irrelevant posts themselves!

Can anybody tell me if it is possible  to apply  for Saffron building societys Small Saver £50 per month  via mobile, please?

I've tried two different  phones and can't get past the password/ questions  section.
The section  just goes red and says amend details.

    No access  to PC/tablet/laptop.
"You can open the account online, in branch, by post."  If you don't have access to PC/laptop/tablet you can still open the account online using browser on your phone. I think calling Saffron should work too.
Well l tried but after 40 minutes 2 different  browsers and 3 attempts  l gave up. : (

Do you have the option to switch to ``desktop view" in the browser on your phone?

If I go to the Saffron website on my phone and click the 3 dots in the top right I have the option to select ``Desktop site", this alters the functionality of many websites on my phone to work in the same way as a laptop would (the text appears much smaller though so you'll probably have to zoom in to see anything).

No joy even  with your recommendation.
After 40 minutes and a few different  browsers I've called it a day.

BTW  thank you for  everything  you do on the forum. :)
