You can now open your account instantly using our new Monmouthshire Building Society App. Applying on the app will override your current online application.

Like many, I had problems on Friday opening this account. I first applied online. Got no confirmation email. Then applied again, successfully, with the App.
Most likely for those of us who received that email (and didn't get an account opened for them in the first day or two) they'll be checking and dropping applications if people have already got an account set up.

Also just got this email as did my wife (although she never received an original confirmation email). Decided to bite the bullet and apply by app... got to the end and got a message saying they "could not verify your nba details".
Not sure what the National Basketball Association has to do with it?
Gave up and will wait for the snail mail.

NBA in this context stands for "nominated bank account", which is the bank account which you've identified ("nominated") as the account you want to use with the account to make deposits/withdrawals.

Nothing to do with basketball, although I do see where the confusion would come from if you're not familiar with the terminology.
Ironically MBS wouldn't let me put my actual name in (with hyphen) so technically my NBA details shouldn't match.

But the app has spent 20 minutes thinking about the application so not quite having the 'instant opening' MBS advertised!

Perhaps the app can only approve applications during working hours...

Some left it overnight to find they'd had theirs approved by morning.

Monmouth BS Reg Saver.........I'm in no rush. I don't care if they take 5 days or 50 days as they won't be getting any deposit money from me until they process my application. Seems like the disadvantage is all theirs.....

When the rate drops it'll drop for everyone on the same date(s). Every day missed is a day you won't get the headline rate, and will instead get a day at whatever rate exists in a year's time (not much if last year's Exclusive Regular Saver is anything to go by).
Only relevant if you have the money to put in there now!
I mean yeah, sure, but isn't that the case with all savings accounts of any sort!?

Following my online application on Friday I have just got the following in an email...

Thank you for applying for a new account with Monmouthshire Building Society.

Due to high demand, we’re currently working through a large number of applications. Online applications are typically processed within 5 working days.

It didn't override in my case.  I applied online first, few hours later the app was fixed and I applied in the app.  My app application was successful, funded, money is showing and backdated.  Yesterday the second issue 8 has appeared and I funded it straight away.  Today I received the letter asking me to send the signature form back, it also says that there will be no transactions until they receive my wet signature and indeed I've just received my £500 back.   The second account is still open.

It may be that app applications overriding online ones was put in later, with early double applications resulting in two accounts being opened.

    Virgin

It's belatedly dawned on me that the bonus 10% interest being paid on balances up to £1000 in the associated current account ended on 30 June. So I guess now many of us are in the process of closing our Virgin regular savers it's time to move most if not all of that £1000 elsewhere, if we haven't already.
    Virgin RS and current a/c

Oh geez, should have read the small(er) print; I didn't see anything about 'the bonus 10% interest being paid on balances up to £1000 in the associated current account' — drat.

I too received the email from MBS today.  Decided to give the app another go.  Took at least 45 minutes for it to verify my details.  RS account set up and test payment sent.  Will check in the morning before sending full payment.
