To be clearer, I meant official as in Special Saver has stopped committing to the old regular saver thread and handed responsibility over to Bridlington and as such this is the new official thread for regular saver info going forward.
I kind of understand the point of your thread but personally I don't know if there's much of a need of yet another thread that's going to contain the same/similar info.
I think this new thread (that Bridlington can edit) plus the old one (which only Special could edit) + the archived T&C's one is all that's needed tbh.
It's not difficult to work out if there's new accounts available because of the comment activity that will be here + the 1st page will get updated.
See how your thread goes I guess.0 -
Presumably you missed the bit where one of those thread starters expressed dissatisfaction with the actions of the other then? Or are they falling in to both the 'praise' and the 'shame' category?simonsmithsays said:Ironically three people who come out well are those who've started the three threads and are trying to help us all.
Please don't let this nonsense stop your valued assistance.
Those trying to cause fights and derail threads - shame on you.
@Special_Saver2 nominated @Bridlington1 to carry the mantle forwards. The community owes it to @Bridlington1 to give them the time and space to make it work. If @Special_Saver2 or @Bridlington1 nominated someone else to continue part of their work, then that'd be a different situation, but as it is it feels a lot like opportunism and not at all like an attempt to support @Special_Saver2 and @Bridlington1 through the transition.

When I saw there were 51 new posts since I last read this thread, I thought there must've been another great account launched, like Virgin's 10% Regular Saver. How wrong I was!

You did say that, but then you also cast shame on people you accused of 'starting fights' - which is a rather vague accusation which possibly includes one of the people we're all trying to root for here.simonsmithsays said:
As I say all three thread creators come out of it great to me.WillPS said:

Others much, much less so.....
If your intention is to merely cast judgment on me passive aggressively, then I'm happy to have allowed you to clarify that this is the case.
Is of course what we would all like, but first I think it's important for the community to continue to collectively offer @Bridlington1 our support as things are set up in anticipation of (we all hope) a busy new year with lots of lovely new accounts to discuss!simonsmithsays said:
Back to RS anyone?

If and when there is a new account that is what will naturally happen - attention will switch.MisterMotivated said:When I saw there were 51 new posts since I last read this thread, I thought there must've been another great account launched, like Virgin's 10% Regular Saver. How wrong I was!

Maybe it's time we had a pinned thread explaining how Regular Savers actually work, since so many people seem to get caught out by this misunderstanding.Bigwheels1111 said:
Did you put £300 in a month and get £ 136.50 interest.HedgehogRulez said:How come when my first direct RS matured I only got half the expected interest? Smells like a scam!
If so it’s correct.
I bet you are working it out at 7% on £3600.
Not 7% on £300, The month 2 £600, etc,etc.
Only month 12 had £3600 @ 7%.

You've deliberately misrepresented the entire situation here.simonsmithsays said:
Intentionally taking Nicks No Chat thread off topic and then posting the above comment is really poor form.WillPS said:
Best of luck policing your thread.
Whatever your intentions they're misguided.
You've been reported and put on ignore
For starters, I did no such thing, and that's an allegation you really ought to correct - as it's plainly untrue. The moderators will be able to see this is the case by reviewing the thread.
The statement which you've *very* selectively quoted was contrasting the situation with @Bridlington1 where they were a nominated successor with the blessing of the community vs a complete new entrant trying to enforce rules beyond the normal forum ones. I was highlighting that will be a tricky thing to achieve.
It's important to be friendly on MSE Forum. You're not being ever so friendly.8 -
That's a great idea! I'd welcome such a thing.MisterMotivated said:

Following on from the above the listings on the first page of this thread have now been updated to state how payments received into each account on non-working days are treated as promised.Bridlington1 said:
Thanks for reminding me.PowerSavingMode said:At the risk of showing just how thrilling I'm expecting my New Year's Day to be, is it pointless sending faster payments over to any regular saver on New Year's Day?
The answer to your question depends on the bank/building society in question, some treat payments received on non-working days as having been received the next working day for interest purposes, others do not.
I shall go through the first post of the thread and add a remark to each listing to state how payments received into each account on non-working days are treated.
I'm at work tomorrow so this shall probably be finalised at some point late tomorrow evening (30/12/24) so you should know by New Year's Eve whether you should fund each account listed on the first page on New Year's Day or not.

One observation of note is that Coventry BS have often set 1st January as the cut off date for eligibility for their loyalty regular savers.
With barely 25 hours to go till the New Year now may be a good time to open an easy access account with Coventry and stick £1 in it for ``loyalty purposes" if you haven't already done so.13
