withabix has a good point there, technically just stop paying for it and let the finance company take it off you, or phone them and say you don't want it anymore. Assuming its is a proper HP and the finance is secured on the car!0

Why would the finance company stop wanting their payments?! Im sorry but "your friend" has been well and truly done!
was/is it a reputable car dealership? What have the police said?
how about threatning to contact local newspapers etc?0 -
25 grand on a car and no HPI Report, you couldn't make it up.. :rolleyes:0

Not a bad idea .... BUT ... under the terms of the finance agreement, the person who took out the finance remains liable for any shortfall in the what the car fetches at auction (nothing?) and what is owed on the finance agreement.
It's probably best to "follow the letter of the law here" - continue with the repayments, but pursue the sale of an item which is not as described. Eventually (if there is any justice!!!) this should wipe out all the costs under the finance agreement.Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac

Should we be surprised that the car hasn't been siezed by the Police?

a "ringer" is a car, usually stolen, that has been given a different identity, registration mark and VIN than the one it was issued with.
As such it is illegal to own or drive it.
Trading Standards and the Police must be interested in it. They do not have a choice.
Your friend should inform the Credit company that he cannot, legally, continue to pay for such a car.0 -
