Remove the lid on the toilet system and set the flot up a bit so that you use less water when you flush the loo. This and having a water meter saves me loads.

I've got 2 x free hippos-luckily not the variety found in the Okavango Delta!!
Flush the toilet with water from the bath (overhead shower) & collect when running water in basin waiting for it to heat up, then no hippos exercised!!Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

Wash outer layers of clothes a bit less often, and wait for a full load.
Quick showers. I wash my hair after swimming so that saves on our water use at home.
Water butts and mulches for the garden.3 -
We had hippo's from the water company in our cisterns and ended up with a blocked drain as the reduced water flow wasn't enough to clear the pipes. The drain jetting company told me the hippos often cause this problem .Decluttering, 20 mins / day Jan 2024 2/21

Bath water used to wash the car, wash the windows, water the garden.I thought it would be beyond reasonable after the first go but once you get organised its a piece of cake. Large bucket, 3lts mixing jug.I use the same jug to catch water while it's running from cold to hot.Tipped into a bucket outside the back door and used for plant watering etc.Toilets, if it's yellow let it mellow, if it's brown flush it down........fortunately I live alone so not too much of a problem but probably wouldn't work for a family of 6I reckon this saves me enough water for a couple of baths and showers a week. Also wash hair and have a good soak at the swimming pool.Short showers otherwise. So far still on lowest monthly payment.
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

I too do my best to save water We have three loos in our house one shower & loo downstairs, one ensuite in my bedroom, and a family bathroom. As my DD son-in law and I share our house we are quite good about saving water. But this week her four sons have been staying and god know how much water has been used since las weekend as all four lads forget that we live on the IoW and everyone is metered here( it was the first place in the UK to be totally metered.
They all ,because they live in different places use baths and not showers they all say they prefer them so there has been four baths a day as none of them like showering
Still I suppose its only for a week and it is Christmasback to normality next week
I too have a pail in my en suite that i use excess water from the wash hand basin when running it, the cold water goes into a bucket, and gets used to flush the loo.
We have two large outside water butts for using on the garden, and we are really all three of us pretty good at reusing the 'grey water for car washing etc
I always think that when folk are running the water down the drain would they put the gas on when cooking without actually cooking for five minutes or leave it on full blast after you have finished cooking its the same wastage but just a different usage water instead of gas or electric I tend to switch off unnecessary lights as well. Ingrained habits I think3
