Bet lots of pensioners who have cut right back on heating will be getting a bit warm when they find out they won't get it because they are not high energy users...

If you’re on a low income in England and Wales

If you do not get the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit, you may still be eligible for the Warm Home Discount.

You may be eligible if all of the following applied on 11 August 2024:

    • your energy supplier is part of the scheme
    • you (or your partner) get certain means-tested benefits or tax credits
    • your property has a high energy cost score based on its characteristics
    • your name (or your partner’s) is on the electricity bill

This is known as being in the ‘core group 2’.

I think @Spoonie_Turtle is pointing out that it's based on a calculated energy score, not on how much energy you actually use. So the suggestion that you might miss out on the payment by cutting back on use isn't correct.

    Cheers, stand corrected...
  • That's exactly it.  Calculated based on size, age and type of property.  Actual energy bills don't come into it at all.

Plus pensioners automatically get it if they claim PC anyway.  And if they don't claim any income-based benefit, they can't possibly get it regardless of any other factors.
