Eon has just given me £150 credit on my fuel bill because I am 80 years old.
At least I think that is why but I'm not enquiring too deeply.

  • winters allowance from the gov
  • It will likely be Warm Home Discount, it's in addition to the Winter Fuel Allowance. The rules were changed a few years ago so that below pension age in England you only qualify if you're otherwise eligible (low income) and deemed to have high energy costs - based on your house type and age - but if over pension age you get it regardless based on income criteria.

I don't get any benefits, even pension credit.

I live in Scotland if that makes any difference.

Not for just being a pensioner these days:

There are different ways to qualify for the Warm Home Discount Scheme depending on where you live.

If you live in England and Wales

    You qualify if you either:

    If you live in Scotland

I initially misinterpreted this as evidently the previous commenter did too - yes, pensioners in receipt of a qualifying income-based benefit get the WHD regardless of what type of property they live in, as has always been the case.

For the OP if they don't claim an income-based benefit it could truly be the energy supplier deciding to pay this for all pensioners or all over-80s or some other criterion that includes the OP.

Just because they tell you you are being paranoid if you think they are watching you, doesn’t mean they are not watching!

Their Priority Service Register would be a good place to start.

That's the one, they have known my age since I filled it out years ago.

Bet lots of pensioners who have cut right back on heating will be getting a bit warm when they find out they won't get it because they are not high energy users...
