Confused about my Simple Assessment

Options
Hi everyone,

I got a letter saying I need to pay £867.80 following a Simple Assessment letter. (I had worked two jobs and changed one of the jobs in that year)

But my memory might be a little mixed up, I thought HMRC had planned to recoup that money because they have reduced my tax free allowance for the year?

I feel like I will end up paying the debt twice.

Does something seem wrong with this logic? I am planning on calling about it soon, but I just wanted to gauge whether I am on the right track

Hi, first of all - is this for tax year 2023-2024?

If so how much did you earn for the full year and how much tax did you pay?

You can find that out on your personal tax account on HMRC.

It could be that your tax code has changed AND you have a bill to pay - but we need more info.

Does the simple assessment letter not have a calculation that explains it?
  • Ok, so it was for the tax year 2022-2023,

I do owe tax for the year 2023-2024 which is being partially collected with a reduced tax free allowance.

I had assumed the amount I owe from 2022-2023 was factored into the amount I owe for 20-23-2024
