Avanti train strikes

We have a visitor travelling from Paris to London on Eurostar and was hoping to get train London to Manchester. Unfortunately it is on the evening of 29th December and it is a strike day. Has anyone any suggestions how she can get up to Manchester (or nearby) on evening of 29th. Preferably a different train company. Thank you.

National Express or Megabus coaches. Or she can get a train to somewhere like Leeds or Sheffield and then get a train to Manchester

From Eurostar easiest is Midland Mainline from St Pancras and connection to Manchester in Sheffield.  Alternative East Coast from Kings Cross with connections to Manchester from a number of stations along the route.










and connection to Manchester.

Midland (EMR) from St Pancras won't work as that line is closed over Christmas for engineering work with buses to Milton Keynes.

Update!  The strike has been called off and a new offer been made to the union. Your visitor can go as planned.

It looks like the strikes are still on "The RMT union has announced strike action affecting Avanti West Coast on 31 December and 2 January". This is from the Avanti web site.

Does anyone know where I stand, as I have an advanced ticket from Cheshire to London on the 2nd, and another advanced ticket for the same day to get from London to Suffolk. If Avanti don't run their train, I can't get my booked train to Suffolk.

Can anyone offer any thoughts on how this will work out??
