So so sorry to hear of your familys bereavement, look after yourself at such a difficult time
    DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff.    Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

Thank you very much for the condolence messages. Sorry for going radio silent again but I had a couple of rough months with stress and anxiety through the roof so had a bit of time away from the forum. Back now though and will make a concerted effort to post more regularly from now on.

Since I last posted, we received the Grant of Letters of Administration for Mum’s estate, submitted the mortgage application and are currently going through the conveyancing process. Completion expected over the next week or so, depending on how quickly the bank can release the funds to the conveyancers, so expecting to start making mortgage payments from the beginning of May.

DB1 is progressing well with the garden. Shed has been received and put up, we also have some raised beds down the side of the house which have had seeds sown. It’s all looking far better than it did previously out there.

We’ve had a builder out to look at some issues around the house and waiting on quotes to get these things resolved so we can start saving for them and getting them booked in.

I’ve booked a tip run for this Saturday so hoping to get some more stuff cleared out of the house then. Have also arranged for DB2 and DB3 to come over and help us go through some of Mum’s stuff so we can progress clearing her room some more. I will be moving into Mum’s old bedroom and have ordered a new bed, so we have a vague deadline now and need to get things sorted. I will also need to redecorate the room before the bed comes, so the sooner we can get things moving into Mum’s old there, the better.

General progress around the house has been pretty slow but now I’m feeling a bit better and we have some long weekends coming up, I’m hoping to get things moving throughout the house.

i will come back this weekend and hopefully report the things we have cleared and all I have managed to achieve in the house.

    B x

    Back again as promised!

I’ve not done as much as I wanted to over this weekend but have achieved a few bits:

    - I did a tip run with DB1, getting rid of some of Mum’s clothes, a couple of old broken clothes airers and some unwanted bits from the garden.
    - I’ve started sorting through some of the rubbish in my bedroom as well.
    - DB1 and I found the spare pair of net curtains for the living room, which we will sort out putting up in the next few days as little Mog has utterly wrecked the previous set.
    - I’ve done a little bit of gardening and started clearing some of the bindweed.

Completion is set for 23rd April so 2 days till DB1 and I officially are homeowners, and I have to start working out how to get this mortgage down 😂😂

Am only working tomorrow and Wednesday then I’m off for the rest of the week as it’s my birthday on Thursday. DB2 and DB3 will be coming over at the weekend to help go through some of Mum’s things so I’m hopeful we might get some good movement on that front by the end of this week. DB1 and I will then do another tip run on the May bank holiday weekend to get rid of any stuff that’s not needed.

I’ll be back to report in with mortgage figures on Wednesday or Thursday.

Thanks for the birthday wishes @beanielou.

I had a nice birthday, quite a quiet day but I think that’s what I needed.

Official house purchase went through on Wednesday and DB2 and DB3 got the remainder of their inheritance so they’re happy now. DB1 and I now owe £120,999 on the mortgage and first payment will be taken at the beginning of May. I’m waiting for confirmation from the bank of how much the first payment will be, as it will be for a month and a bit.

DB2 and DB3 came over today to go through some of Mum’s things. They took a fair amount of stuff including some big bits so that’s a bit less for us to get rid of ourselves. Now I need to go through most of what’s left and separate into bits to go to the tip and things that can go to the local charity shops. There’s a handful of bits that need to be gone through including my sisters-in-law and nieces so I think there’s an plan to have a BBQ later in the summer and go through - mainly Mum’s jewellery, photos and her memory box.
