Can I take the Status Barred option?

I live in Ontario, Canada. I received a message from PRA group to call them at an 844 number to settle an old debt from 2011. The debt doesn’t appear on my credit history report. I haven’t made any payments towards the debt nor have I accepted ownership over the debt. Can sending them a status barred letter work against me?

It's statute barred, i.e. Barred by statute.
If you are living in Canada I think you can safely ignore them. Particularly if they are just communicating electronically
