New spectacles with anti glare coating and scratch resistant lenses?

I purchased two sets of spectacles online around three years ago and I ordered the option of anti glare coating and scratch resistant lenses. These lenses had a very slight blue tint to them which I presumed was something to do with the lens coating.

I had to order two new sets of spectacles last week with the similar anti glare and scratch resistant lenses. However, there is no tint whatsoever on these new glasses and the lenses look like plain glass and I am wondering if just standard lens were fitted to the new glasses.

My question is should anti glare coating and scratch resistant lenses have a very slight blue tint?

  • I've never had anti-glare, although it was offered to me when I got my most recent set oddly enough. A standard anti-reflective coating certainly still gives a green tint though (and having just checked, clearly shows on mine) so it might be worth just double checking it with the opticians?

  • My glasses from Specsavers have both, it's only really visible in reflections of very bright light and I couldn't really tell you what colour it is (sort of purple-y?  On the reflection of my very very bright SAD lamp.  And just the faintest hue on the reflection of my normal bright white room lightbulb).  So I don't know.  I guess the question is does the anti-glare work for you, or are you getting glare/reflections that you shouldn't be?

The blue you mention is possibly the anti blue light coating.

I bought my last set from Glasses Direct & could get it added on for like £30 or whatever it was at the time. Since I only used my glasses for working on the computer I thought why not.

My prescription has now changed & I'll be wearing glasses more often. I've since read articles claiming there's zero evidence that these blue tinted lenses help you in any way when it comes to blocking out the blue light from devices and any harm this may or may not do you.

So I didn't bother adding it to this next pair.
