Waiting on Insurers to do their thing!

My car died a death in a flood two weeks ago. Rang thenunsurers whilst I waited for RAC rescue-they told me they would reimburse me the hotel and recovery lorry costs and to send invoices in. They said they would get my car looked at and start the process of fixing or sending out a cheque.
Two days later someone from their garage photographs the car (which is now on the side of the road by my house and not my drive as the lorry couldn't manage the manoeuvre). Then nothing.

Too-ing and fro-ing means two weeks later I get a courtesy car BUT only for two weeks. Insurers didn't know what was happening with my own car. Finally had an answer from their garage who will collect it next week BUT when they collect it I will have reached the time limit on the courtesy car and will be back to having no car ('m disabled and live in a remote area and there is no public travel!)

By the time the garage collect my car, a month will have passed and I was told by the garage guy who took the photos of my car, the RAC guy who rescued us and Insurers that because it's water damaged it's going to be a write-off.

I have some money set aside BUT not only are there car issues but my boiler also decided to pack in this weekend and I need to replace that too. So I'm going to use my savings to cover the boiler BUT do I get a small loan to cover costs of car Whilst I wait for Insurers do do whatever it is they're meant to do? Or do I wait? Because I'm also a single parent with the demand of taking my child to and from the other parent over Christmas (it's not a co-parenting relationship and there is no reasonable request for leniency whilst I have no transport-I have tried) I'm becoming insanely stressed over what to do.

Has anyone ever been in a similar situation or got any handy advice?

I've tried asking for further use of the courtesy car because Insurers were moving slow BUT my policy only gives me two weeks use (does make me wonder why i pay fully comp rates) and it's my first claim in 19years so hoped they would be more accommodating but it seems not. I also have no family to turn to and my friends gave their own jobs and families to run around for so can't keep asking.

So you have known there is a high chance your car will be written off for nearly a month. Have you been looking for a replacement car whilst you have transport?

That would be my priority, finding suitable replacement cars are the price you can afford taking into account what you are likely to get as a write off payment. If you have looked at a few over different price ranges, then you will be able to be in a position to move quickly for the one that fits with what you can afford once you have your settlement.

Insurers will often give 5 days to return the courtesy car once the settlement has been agreed. Read your T&C's to see if that is the case.
