It's not like the porch is a primary escape route in the event of a fire :o
I can't quite remember why the loft is now not deemed to be a safe place for batteries.  Isn't that supposed to be due to the risk they pose in the event of a fire?
Yes, the risk in the event of a fire.  From what I've seen, it's because the batterys are very heavy and could fall onto firemen trying to put out a fire if the roof joists fail.  I don't believe it's a fire hazard in itself, although Lithium batterys have been known to ignite

I was reminded there have been a number of fatalities due to e-bikes being charged in doorways or on stairs and going into thermal runaway.  Of course, the risk is much lower with properly installed domestic storage.
A quick Google came up with:

A lot of e-bikes are shoddily made in China, and sold with inappropriate chargers.  The manufacturers aren't too bothered by any safety standards.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.
