Sainsbury Christmas Club Card

This is the first year I've bought one of these.  I am finding it very confusing.

How do I spend my balance on-line? In one section it says you cannot use it to pay with a credit/debit card i.e. split a payment by paying part on the balance of your card and the rest by using a credit card. And in another it says you can. And there appears to be no way of using two cards to pay for a total.

If I use my balance on a big shop how do I pay the rest of the total? Presumably if I use some of the balance for a small shop, how do I find out how much I have left on the card? And then I am still left with a small balance on the card at the end. It says you cannot have the money refunded.

I've got £120 on the card but don't seem to be able to use it.  Any help would be apprecaited.

This page has the information: https://help.sainsburys.co.uk/help/products/christmas_club_card

So to spend online, it's essentially the same as a debit or credit card, and you can't add a 'real' credit or debit card to the same order. It says you can add a gift card in addition - topcashback, everup, cheddar and no doubt others sell sainsbury's giftcards with cashback, if you go down this route.

You'll likely end up with a few pennies left on the Christmas Club card, due to the inevitable substitutions/loose items charged by weight. I'm not sure what would happen if the total was higher than expected - I'm guessing they'd phone you for an additional payment method, but I've not used this type of card. If you're not familiar with shopping online with Sainsbury's, the 'total' is rarely the actual total.

Theres a link on that page to register the card and check the balance.

If you use it in store, use a manned checkout and just hand it over.

    Hope this helps!

  • Thanks for your reply.  I use on-line shopping at Sainsbury all the time, but this is the first time I've tried their Christmas Club Card.  I am starting to think it is a Mastercard account of some kind.  I will try using it to pay for some shopping this week and see what happens.    As you say I think you are left with a small balance always and you cannot get the money back.  I might try using the card on an order larger than the balance and see what happens, see if I get a phone call to request an additional amount.  That would be fine but you run the risk of them cancelling your order and you not getting a delivery.  It seems a strange arrangement and the help on the web site is confusing.  Getting the card was difficult, the first two stores I tried had never heard of it.........  Thanks again.
  • Well  I tried using the £105 balance on my Sainsbury Christmas Club card today. And even through the charge from Sainbury for the groceries was £103, it would't go through.  I got a call to say the delivery was on hold and I had to use a credit card to pay.  So what has happened to the £105 I have on this card?  Has anyone else had this problem. The Sainsbury's Christmas Club Card appears on my list of payment cards and is authorised OK.  What do I do now Martin?
  • Sainsburys Christmas Club Card

I spent 20 mins on the phone yesterday with the Sainsburys help line trying to find out why my Sainsburys Christmas Club Card had been rejected by Sainsburys. The chap ended up spelling out the names of products I couldn't buy with the card, something I already knew, – petrol, baby milk, tobacco, they were not on my shopping bag. I couldn't hear what he was saying most of the time and I just gave up. I've sent an email to Sainsbury and hope to get a response in 3 days. Does anyone else have this problem using the Christmas Club Card?
