Years ago my Mother got a recipe booklet using Bird's custard powder and Dream topping. There was a recipe for a Walnut and Caramel slice which had custard powder in the base. I have lost the booklet and wondered if anyone had the recipe?

This one uses custard powder in the base

and this one uses good old fashioned Bird's in the filling!
maybe you can adapt?

Thanks to Katiehound and Brie for your replies, much appreciated.I have made the nutty -caramel slice before. It is in an Australian Women's Weekly recipe book which I bought years ago while working in OZ. Will give the Nanaimo-slice a go.When you bought them at the Cinema, Brie, were they mass produced or baked by the Cinema. When I was a child we occasionally went to a cinema which was privately owned and had a restaurant attached. You could get high tea there with home bakes! A trip to the cinema was a huge treat and major event! The Walnut slices I had the recipe for had chopped walnuts in the shortbread type base and a fudgey/caramel topping. I think I will just have to fiddle around with recipes to see if I can come up with something similar.2

I wonder if one of these is the booklet:

Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!1 -
I came across this recipe which isn't quite what you're after but does look delicious and then I can recommend both of these Nigella's custard creams and Delia's walnut shortbreads which might be worth fiddling around with.
Also, I expect you've already looked at the Bird's page but I noticed it did have an enquiry form at the bottom so you could try asking them in case they keep an archive.1 -
Thank-you to Marcon and Goldfinches for your research! Sadly the booklets are not the same as the one I had. I think I am going to have to try and adapt a recipe. Delia's walnut shortbread recipe will maybe be the base.
