Just to put this one to bed.

I called them on Monday 2nd December to ask about the certificate. I was told that I don't need it, and that I should email them to say that I will not be applying for it.

I did that straight after the call. Had no further communication.

The tax free PCLS landed in my bank account this morning.

No idea when the actual pension payments will begin.

So, happy days. Two weeks left at work. I won't hear a bad word said about WTW. They're brilliant:)

Thanks for the comments. I'm not sure if I'll get asked about the certificate when I come to access SIPPs at some point over the next year or two.
You may well do. Just say you do not have one as it is not relevant for your situation.

Having the certificate ( if you are eligible for one of course) is actually an advantage for the client who has a big pot, and may get close to the £268K lump sum limit.
However only a small minority I would guess would be eligible for one, and many of these will be blissfully unaware. So hence the provider will have a duty to ask/inform. ( and confuse everybody else !)

Well ghast my flabber!  Now lettest thou thy pensioner depart in peace having seen thy salvation? :o

Absolutely! Still think the letter is very poorly worded though. It fails to mention that not having a certificate is even an option. The communication in general is poor too. I've no idea when the pension payments start, or indeed, how much they'll be.

Still, they've paid me money from a scheme I was only in during the 1980s, so they're currently my favourite pension administrator!
