NI contribution with two part time jobs

Hi,
Can anyone advise please. I am earning minimum wage working for one company and about to work the same for another, so total hours are full time but I'll be under the threshold for NI contributions for both - how do I make sure I pay enough NI for my pension?

If you are referring to building up an NI history for the State Pension then you don't have to pay NI.

You need to earn £123/week in one or other of the jobs. Not £123/week combined.
  • I read on the CAB: The amount of State Pension you’ll get depends on how many ‘qualifying’ years of National Insurance payments you have.

The information about making voluntary NI payments is here https://www.gov.uk/voluntary-national-insurance-contributions. Have a look, if you’ve been working age for a while you might also want to look more carefully at your NI record. You may have some years that qualify already.

Come back with any questions - and good on you for prioritising this, it’s often very worthwhile.

There many ways of getting a qualifying year including earning in excess of £123 PW where you will be credited with a week, earning enough to pay NI, receiving child benefit and receiving some other benefits as well as buying years voluntarily.

35 hours per week at adult NMW of £11.44ph works out as £400.40 a week.
No matter how you split that between two paycheques, one will have to be more than £123pw.

    True.

How much do you earn per week from the higher paying of your two jobs?
Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!
