  • Honestly Foxes I’m not surprised. You are holding everything together and supporting your whole family, so it makes sense that you get a bit burnt out with it all and treat yourself! I hope the clothes help Mr Fox to have some faith in himself, hopefully the confidence will help him doing something to support you.

I cannot judge as I’ve done it myself and haven’t the care responsibilities you have.

Good that you’ve recognised it and well done on the debt pay off!!

I think essential clothing can't count as an overspend and at least you had a really good day out (and resisted merchandise) - and I think you just have to put the day out spends down to 'bank of well being': use those good memories to spur you on when you have difficulty making economies in the future.

Well done on the debt repayment, and grr to tardy response from solicitor and still having to wait for the van.

Is any of his old, larger stuff still in good enough nick to be put on Vinted?

Good luck with the van repair and house move coinciding to lessen the stress!

Things continue to balance for me in strange and unusual ways.

I have just completed a bank account switch (my Chase sign up bonuses have expired) to TSB so if I make 5 payments using the debit card on my new account between now and 14th March 2025, I will get £100 deposited in my account.

I also have had my Poll Clerk letter through this morning, so that's another £200 roughly after tax. So that should balance my overspends on the weekend, although rather belatedly. Either way, its at least £200 I will be putting into my emergency fund.

Currently stuck in waiting on the rubbish removal people to turn up and clear my shed. He said he would be here Wednesday morning, and he only has 27 minutes left of the morning. I need to go to Co-op shortly and grab some more oat milk for my morning coffees, and post my Poll Clerk acceptance letter. I hate waiting around for other people. Will be wandering past the garage to see if my van is being worked on yet.

Larger stuff will be put on Vinted as soon as I locate my postage bags...

Have done some further calculations. When we move I will be able to afford my monthly phone bill without paying off the handset, so I have removed it from my total outstanding debts. I know it's still there, and if I get any more money at any point, I can pay it off, but it is so low on my priority list, that it doesn't need to be counted. By removing that, and from paying back the £95 to friends and family, my debt is now at £42,448.11. I don't have the actual cash to do much about it until we move, but it is quite motivating to have reduced the amount outstanding, even if it is solely through trickery.

Just hopping on to remind you that at the start of this fresh diary your total number was just over 44k, and 2 months later (to the day!) it's 42.4k. That is 800 a month, even over Christmas  Just think what you'll be able to do once the move goes through!

Don't beat yourself up on what you described as "overspend" - you're doing great! Sounds like you had a good time at the gig - what did you see?

@londoner2019 We went to see Bullet for My Valentine - it was like I was 14 again!

It was definitely an overspend, we are now on an absolute shoestring for the foreseeable.... Or I thought we were. Had a very strange message yesterday from my mum's friend. A long time ago my mum lent her some money to buy a woodland, or something, and she wants to pay it back to me. Mum passed away 12 years ago, but her friend is now in a position to repay the loan. I don't know what to do. Morally it feels weird to take money that wasn't mine - but it would help us out HUGELY right now. And we aren't talking £80. We are talking a few thousand pounds. Enough to bring the debt under 40k, start an emergency fund, and buy furniture for the new house. I just feel strange about it all. The universe continues to throw me for a loop.

    Love, Fox.

In my opinion you should definitely accept the money from your mum's friend. After all, it was a loan & should be repaid, albeit it to you  & not to your mum.

I agree if you are the one who inherited your mums estate then it should come to you. It's what your mum would have wanted. Could you buy something for yourself with it as a reminder? Then put the rest towards debt.
