three cheese sandwiches ...

when we drove back from scotland today, we brought some cheese sandwiches with us, but we didn't eat them. My best idea so far is to put them in an oven dish and pour beaten egg/milk over them to make a savoury bread pudding. Any other ideas? I don't have the gadget for making toasties ... I don't have any gadgets actually, cos I have a small kitchen.

Have got got a grill? You could just stick them under till they have toasted and the cheese has melted...no gadgets required. This is of course a lazier option than the one you suggested! :rotfl: But then I've microwaved left over sarnies before and enjoyed them. A bit bendy, mind.0

A variation on grilling them under the grill - I would butter the unbuttered sides of the sandwiches and fry in a fying pan - turning each sandwich over carefully as it gets toasted and the insides melt - very tasty.

True ... was thinking that they will be fairly stale by tomorrow, would that make the toasted version a bit dry? The other plan for lunch is pumpkin soup with thai spices & coconut milk so ideally what I do with the bread & cheese will be child friendly unlike the soup.Mortgage started on 22.5.09 : £129,600Overpayments to date: £3000June grocery challenge: 400/6000

When bread is going a bit dry is when I make toasties! But you could dip them in egg & milk before frying, savoury eggy bread.0 -

well, stamford, I could ... but my first resolution for 2008 was not to waste food, so I thought I would use 'em. Also, there's nowhere to put them out anyway!
I think I really like the french toast variation. We have heaps of eggs. The kids will like it, it has protein in and will fill them up, and I don't have to turn the oven on!Mortgage started on 22.5.09 : £129,600Overpayments to date: £3000June grocery challenge: 400/6000 -
Yep I would butter the outsides and fry them in a pan too - scrummy !0
