Debt collection letter from Capquest/Opos/Arrow Global

I have seen a few posts related to these companies, my husband received a letter from Capquest/Opos/Arrow Global chasing payment of an overdraft account on a Lloyds TSB account, he doesn't recall having an overdraft account but did have an account with them over 25 years ago.

The total supposed debt is £101.81 with an offer to pay £25.45 to clear it.

My thought is that even though it is a small amount to clear it, I don't think he should pay, my husband thinks that we should just pay to get rid of it.

I have drafted a prove it letter from the template given on this forum, should I send that or should we just pay it, I could end up spending more in postage but it's the principle.

If it's addressed to him then any action is down to him to take. There's no way I would pay it without them proving it was mine, no matter how small it was. They are trying their luck in the hope of finding some mug who will just pay, don't be that mug.

    Send the prove-it letter.

A whole batch of old statute barred debt has apparently re-surfaced with the new owners attempting to extort the balances from unsuspecting debtors.

This is contrary to FCA guidelines and really shouldn`t happen, you might want to consider also sending a formal complaint to Arrow Global concerning the regurgitation of statute barred accounts in direct contradiction of CONC guidelines.

I had also had a letter for a provident loan that I took out over 25 years ago in my maiden name ,now that I am divorced they have tried to pull a fast one and come after me for this debt , They said they would take £60 of the debt if I paid now .they can jog on Firstly the debt is status barred and for everyone that does not know Provident was struck off by the FCA for bad buissness  practices  in 2021 I think it was and all outstanding  debts owed where wiped .I just contacted the companies and told them if they contact me again regarding  this debt I will report them to the FCA as they know the debt is status barred and they also know provident was struck off for bad buissness practices and no longer trading by the FCA and all debts where wiped (just google this information) i also expressed if they attempt to send me anymore letters or contact me again i will inform the FCA .within 12 hrs they responded and said they file was closed and they would not contact me again .These people are chancers hoping people will panic and don't know the law they buy these debts for pennies hoping  that people will pay up if they apply enough pressure and as I say some people are so vulnerable individuals they don't know the law  Provident is dead in water and all debts where wiped due to their bad buissness practices now these vultures are trying to collect absolutely shocking

Just write to them on the back of the letter there is a complaint email and tell them that the debt is over 6 years old it's status barred, providident loans was struck off by the FCA and all debts where wiped due to bad buissness practices  They have bought a bad debt  if they contact you again regarding this debt you will report them to the FCA  you know your legal rights and they also have to prove you owe the debt

Put in exactly how old the debt is

Firstly the debt is status barred
    That sounds very likely
and for everyone that does not know Provident was struck off by the FCA for bad business practices  in 2021 I think it was and all outstanding  debts owed where wiped
that only applied to debts still owed to Provident, not any that had been sold to a debt collector before Provident's scheme started. Don't bother to mention this point as it wont help you at all.
