Self Employed. Medical Operation.

Hi all.
Just found out I have to have a medical operation and I cant work for 8 weeks. I will be bed bound and there is nothing I can do about the operation I unfortunately have to have it, This is going to financially cripple me.  I have a mortgage and 2 children and a dog.    This was totally unexpected.

Can anyone tell me if there is any help out there for me for these 8 weeks? Can I get UC ?

Thanks all.

Can you contact your mortgage provider for a mortgage holiday for those two months?
is someone else in the household working and could they increase their hours at all for that period?

If you apply for UC, it will be a joint claim along with your partner and will consider any savings you have.  If the savings are greater than £16k, then UC will not be available.

The nature of being sole-trader is that the rates you charge for work need to be set at a level that allows money to be set aside to cover absences - whether planned annual leave or unplanned illness / operation / accident.  Insurance policies are available to cover some of these events - do you have any insurance in place?

Unfortunately, being a sole trader isn't as lucrative as is made out for quite a lot of people...

I have no partner. Only me, 2 kids but the ex gets the child tax credits as that's how it's set up. Kids stay with me 50%. I have a mortgage so I'll try for a payment holiday. No savings other than next months bills...

    Thanks

The OP said if ive got £16000 i will NOT be able to claim.  Is that actual assets such as house or money in bank only?  Thanks

House doesn’t count if you’re living in it.
