Halifax appeal process

Hi, desperately after some help...our situation is quite complex but we went for a remortgage with Halifax and underwriters turned it down yesterday of what I would class as small items in the grand scheme of things....I want to appeal but just found out the process is done in writing with no time frame! You wouldn't even know if they've received it either, where as if the underwriters wanted more info off us they would have come back through the Halifax mortgage advisor?
Seems ridiculous.....anyone have any experience on this? And whether it's worth doing?
The problem is we can't go anywhere else on the market due to our situation
