Sainsbury's and Aldi Price Match

For a couple of months my local Sainsbury's supermarket has been selling its wholemeal pitta at 60p and at the same time promising it's been price matched against Aldi. When I've visited Aldi in the last 2 weeks their wholemeal pitta is on the shelves at 50p. How many more so called price matches are similarly incorrect?

On Sainsbury's website it doesn't say it's an Aldi price match.

You can find a complete reference of all Sainsbury's Aldi Price Match products here:

There are two price-matched packs of wraps (both branded "Stamford Street") but no pitta breads.0 -
i think Asda have dropped the price match with Aldi. A couple of things I normally buy were back up to their old price this week0

In my experience the prices shown by SB are normally (say 19 times out of 20) the same. However, the actual product may well be slightly different, often with another (normally lower) weight. It can pay to compare... for those who can be bothered

They can be found in many Asda stores but not in Asda Express storesI guess if the price disparity is too high the item is dropped

Tesco had an Aldi Price match sticker on its caged/ battery eggs. Aldi only sells free-range eggs, so I was really angry to see not only this miss-selling but also the suggestion that Alsi sold caged eggs, too.1

Caveat Emptor with price matches just as with anything else. There can be errors and "taking the proverbial" amongst such matches, or just plain bad faith.
The thing is still that they are (only) price matches - there is nothing stated about matching quality of products. That's particularly an issue with Tesco and Sainsburys who have their mid-brands supposedly to match the fake brands of Aldi and Lidl. Who said Stamford Street Co. compares to Newgate(*)? Why doesn't "by Sainsburys" compare to Newgate? The only possible way to tell is to try all three head to head, which could work out expensive.
At some stage, it would be useful to take a particularly troubling price match to the ASA. The most likely outcome would be either that the ASA would instruct that the misleading price match must not be "advertised" again (which would establish a useful precedent), or that they would confirm that it is solely a price match (not a quality match) in which case at least we would know.
(*) I wonder if anyone in the marketing department of Lidl knows about Newgate Prison?1
