Getting a mortgage 18 years after repossession

Options
Hi,

I’m looking for some advice on the above. Myself and my husband were very young and unfortunately had our first home repossessed almost 19 years ago due to many factors. The main being me falling pregnant and not being able to work due to a complicated pregnancy and my husband losing his job. Although our property was repossessed we did not have to declare bankruptcy.

We are now in a much better position in life and by working hard and a bit of help from parents we are now able to buy our home. We have a large deposit so the LTV will be around 38% and the mortgage amount will be around 2x our joint annual income.

My questions to you very knowledgeable people are,
- should we disclose the repossession even though it was a long time ago and it is now off of our credit file
- is there any lenders we should avoid, I know we should definitely avoid the lender who repossessed
- are their any lenders who we should favour due to their criteria on past repossession
- will we have to go to an adverse credit lender even though our credit score is good?

Thank you so much for reading 😀

    - If asked, yes. But most only ask about the last 6 years. Even if you have to declare it dont worry.
    - I think you will be fine but as you say, avoid the lender and end of their subsidiaries you had the mortgage with.
    - Not at 18 years. Slightly different if in the last 6 years.
    - No.

Dont worry, you will be fine. Speak to a broker if unsure, but dont lose any sleep over it.

Just make sure that everything else on your credit report shows you to be good stable individuals.  No recent missed/late payments for anything on credit.  Both registered to vote.  No CCJs.  Take a look at any credit cards and if you have very high credit limits, even if not being used, get them lowered.

But as ACG says you should be fine.  What you have said about your current situation makes you look very low risk.
