Yes - I'd say any time you get something and you don't know what the source of the debt is then send a prove it.
And send it by post, don't ring them, don't email or text. There's a lot of this at the moment. Seems to be 'mistracing' by ACI - something their professional body tells us does not happen2

I have now received this letter 3 days after receiving the original letter the original had no date on it this one has 29th October on it I will send the prove it letter today by recorded delivery - slightly worried any advice would be greatly received0

You need not send by recorded delivery, proof of posting which is free from the Post Office is as good.
Don't worry about any one visiting, you just tell them to go away if they turn up, they are only door knockers. If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone.1 -
This has been mentioned in many threads, and crops up from time to time, in essence there are certain companies out there that work in tandem with debt collection agencies that provide people to call round to your house to discuss why you have not been paying your debts to the company concerned.
They are simply collection agents, not bailiffs, they possess no more power than next doors cat, you can choose to engage with them, or just ignore them, most people just film them, and they tend to go away.
You will likely find a letter on your doorstep, to say they have called.
ACI and there ilk tend to use the threat of such companies calling on you, as an instrument to persuade you to contact them, its just another method they use.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Hello all, newbie here. I received an undated letter from ACI and don’t recognise the account. I sent a prove it letter via recorded delivery to ACI and Intrum with no response yet.I saw another forum member had sent an email so I backed up my letters with an email to ACI.No response to my letters yet, I have received an email response stating they can’t locate my account and asking for me to confirm my name, date of birth, address etc.
I replied again with the prove it letter which includes a copy of their letter with their internal reference numbers stating they have all the information required.I have now received another email asking me again to confirm my details. I feel I should wait for a response to my letters in writing, if nothing then chase them up.I sense the two emails are a trap so just wondering what your thoughts are please?
Many thanks.0 -
Apologies, can anyone share their thoughts/insight please?0

"Data protection" is why you need to confirm who you are.
They send collection letters out like invites to swingers parties, in the hope of a hit, if you want to settle this matter, you will have to confirm who you are, otherwise it will continue to go around in circles.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards.
