  • I claimed for two missing years when I was looking after my children but the child benefit went to my husband.  They go into the relevant years not just any years where you haven’t got enough.

So why have they transferred them if there was no point? I don't understand. Will my wife now have 16 years missing from her pension?
You said this in your op, did you ask for them to be moved or not 🤔

so completed the form and sent it in
So if I ask them to fill in my gaps, they will one presumes?
As I understand it the only years that can be filled in this situation are for the years that the HRP credits relate to.

So do you have any gaps in those years??
Ok, I'm so confused. I have gaps from when I retired in 2014 and they want £4,800 as the amount to pay to allow me to receive a full pension next year. I don't receive the full pension because I was 'contracted out' due to my public sector pension. But if I have now added these HRP's to the 14 years when they were relevant, ie, 1984-2000, surely this means those years are now full rather than reduced because of the contracted out payments. So I shouldn't have to pay those gaps anyway? Or am I missing something here? Could well be.

Adding years prior to 2016 may not add to your pension.  Being contracted out in most cases means you are limited to 30 years pre 2016, adding more will make no difference to your situation.  You cannot "replace" contracted out years, contracted out and contracted in years are exactly the same as far as the basic old pension is concerned, but need to top up with post 2016 years.  If those years are now showing as full and your forecast amount has not increased then yes, you need to top up.  The good news is that you will be able to get the full pension, anyone (with a full NI record) retiring after April 2025 can, unlike some of us earlier post 2016 retirees who could not do it - 42 years and still short.
The important thing now is to check your wife's forecast as if she was not working in the years the CB credits were earned she could now be short.
