Does this include life insurance provided by employers (e.g. Death in service) or just personally purchased policies?
    • The rich buy assets.
    • The poor only have expenses.
    • The middle class buy liabilities they think are assets.

  • I used to work for a company offering this sort of cover, and it was always drummed into us that it it's "life assurance", not "life insurance".

Insurance = for something that MIGHT happen, like a car accident.
Assurance = for something that WILL happen, like death.

Exactly what I was going to say. Come on, MSE, us widows need to be able to take part too, you know!

    Yup, my understanding too.
  • Voted in the poll but results seem a bit odd. Was no mention of "having a will" in the poll but that is shown above types of life insurance voters have had. No results for WHY voters do not have insurance....and age ranges not mentioned. Or am I getting the result of something else? Plus, it is possible to keep on voting after submission ...not usually the case?

If the death of your spouse has little or no financial impact on your finances you shouldn't waste money insuring them, and if you are saving money in the pension wrapper, this is treated as life insurance until you buy an annuity, don't waste money paying for something you don't need or already have.
